The Aquatic Sports Association of Malta (ASA) finds itself at the center of a storm, with claims that members of the national men's water polo team were involved in fixing their matches. The European Water Polo Championship, held in Belgrade, is a prestigious event, marking the 100th anniversary of the competition. Malta, one of the participating nations, is now facing scrutiny over its players' alleged actions. The report suggests that some players bet on their own matches and attempted to manipulate the outcome of their opening game against Montenegro.
According to the newspaper, approximately four players are suspected of conspiring to ensure the final score met specific betting requirements, including the goal difference. Montenegro won the match by a substantial margin of 21 goals to 12, raising questions about the players' intentions.
