The Blue Jays Make a Strategic Move in International Signings
The Toronto Blue Jays have recently made a strategic move in the international signing period, securing three promising prospects from the Caribbean. This move showcases the team's commitment to building a strong foundation for the future.
The first addition is Michael Mesa, a talented left-handed hitting outfielder from the Dominican Republic. MLB Pipeline ranked him as the 30th best international prospect, highlighting his potential as a top hitter. With a scouting grade of 45 on the 20-80 scale, Mesa possesses exceptional hit, power, and run tools, all graded at 50. His training with Jaime Ramos through the MLB Trainer Partnership Program further enhances his skills.
Mesa is expected to make his professional debut in the Dominican Summer League (DSL) this year, with the potential for a move to the U.S. later in the season. However, it's important to note that international prospects typically require at least four years of development, as evidenced by the journey of current Blue Jays superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who signed in 2015 and made his MLB debut in 2019.
The Blue Jays also signed catcher Juan Caricote, who trains with Carlos Figueroa, a member of MLB's Trainer Partnership Program. Caricote, a left-handed hitting catcher, reportedly signed a $1.847 million bonus. Additionally, the team has already seen success with international signees, as infielders Juan Sanchez and right-hander Silvano Hechavarria are now considered Top 30 prospects in the organization, ranked 18th and 25th, respectively.
With $5.94 million in bonus money allocated, the Blue Jays are making significant investments in their future.
