Kobe Pauwels Wins Aston Martin Racing Driver Academy! | GTWC Champion (2026)

Kobe Pauwels has been crowned the latest recipient of the Aston Martin Racing Driver Academy, stepping into a renowned lineage of graduates from the program.

The 21-year-old Belgian from Diest emerged as the 2025 GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup – Silver Cup champion, finishing a standout season with three class wins and five podiums. He joins a celebrated cohort that includes works drivers Rossi Gunn, Roman De Angelis, Valentin Hasse Clot, Tom Canning, Romain Leroux, and Jamie Day, all of whom have progressed to high-profile championships and factory programs.

Pauwels' triumph came at the season finale, where he shared the Sprint Cup title with Day from Comtoyou Racing Aston Martin. His performance throughout 2025 was exceptional, marked by consistent speed and strong racecraft. The selection process was rigorous, culminating in a comprehensive post-season test at Bahrain International Circuit to evaluate pace, feedback, and systems analysis among other competencies.

With the Academy win, Pauwels will link up with Jonny Adam for the 2025/26 Asian Le Mans Series campaign, driving an Aston Martin Vantage GT3 for Ecurie Ecosse Blackthorn alongside Giacomo Petrobelli and Adam himself.

Pauwels reflected on his achievement: “Winning the Aston Martin Racing Driver Academy is a tremendous honor. 2025 has already been incredible with the Vantage and the Silver Cup title, and this milestone makes the year even more special. With support from one of sportscar racing’s most enduring manufacturers, I’m taking a significant step toward my dream of becoming a professional racer. My thanks go to the Aston Martin family for backing me this year and into 2026.”

The AMR Driver Academy operates as an annual program designed to fast-track promising talents from Aston Martin’s extensive partner network. It provides a structured, manufacturer-backed pathway for drivers aged 17 to 26 who are already racing Vantage GT3 or GT4 cars in recognized championships.

Beyond the prize money and race program support for 2027, graduates gain access to personalized factory guidance, including a testing plan that may involve a Vantage GT3 test at the end of 2026. The program also features a dedicated training camp with media coaching, simulator work, and tailored fitness and nutrition plans, plus marketing and sponsorship assistance from AMR’s in-house commercial team and a factory-based engineering workshop.

A judging panel—comprising notable figures such as Darren Turner, Jonny Adam, Valentin Hasse Clot, Gus Beteli, Huw Tasker, Simon Edwards, and Rachel Adam—assesses each candidate’s readiness across strategic, teamwork, commercial, and public relations dimensions, selecting the most promising talent for a sustained development path.

Adam Carter, Aston Martin Head of Endurance Motorsport, commented: “The Driver Academy carries a proud legacy of winners, and we’re thrilled to see Kobe graduate and begin the next phase of his professional career. Since he started racing Vantage in 2024, Kobe has repeatedly demonstrated speed, determination, and a strong commitment to self-improvement—traits that defined the standout class of 2025 and will be essential as he progresses.”

Applications for the 2026 Aston Martin Racing Driver Academy are now open. Interested candidates should contact Rachel Adam at radam@astonmartinracing.com. Applicants must hold a racing license and have an active race program planning to compete in a Vantage GT3 or GT4 in 2026.

And this is where it gets especially interesting: the program doesn’t just reward past success—it accelerates future potential, sometimes reshaping careers in ways that ignite debate about talent development, manufacturer influence, and the best pathways to professional endurance racing. Do you think this kind of manufacturer-backed accelerator helps or hinders true driver independence? Share your thoughts in the comments.
