Highway 410 Reopens in Enumclaw Amid Severe Flood-Related Damage
The stretch of Highway 410 from Enumclaw to Greenwater reopened on Tuesday, even after the Enumclaw Police Department had warned that conditions had worsened significantly and the roadway would be closed for an extended period.
Traffic on SR 410 will alternate directions in the westbound lane, controlled by a temporary signal near Farman Street N. in Enumclaw, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). Expect delays around the area protected by the temporary signal as drivers navigate the setup.
Background: Closure due to White River Flooding
A section of Highway 410 had been shut down on December 11 due to flooding from the White River. In response, WSDOT crews added extra rock along the roadway in an effort to stabilize the washed-out segment.
Officials noted that, while a plan for a long-term fix would be developed soon, the scale of damage across the region made it difficult to provide an exact timeline. The Enumclaw Police Department stated, “WSDOT will be out to assess the damage and determine a solution soon, but with the extensive damage across the region, we are not sure when to have an exact answer.” They added that Greenwater Fire remains actively assisting residents uphill who need help the most."
Impact on travel and local response
Seventeen miles of Highway 410 were closed at the height of the incident, with the affected area near milepost 25. In response, the Greenwater Fire Department organized daily convoys to transport residents between Enumclaw and Greenwater, running two round trips each day.
